If you’ve never called your Member of Congress, today is the day to do it.

from Jessica Craven:
this vote could happen today. Having said that, Johnson doesn’t yet have the votes. So keep calling! …Use 5 Calls. … calls to moderate Republicans AND the so-called “debt hawks” are really important. But if you have a Republican rep just call regardless.

Here are some numbers to put things into perspective:
1 Million seconds = 11.5 days
1 Billion seconds = 32 YEARS
1 Trillion seconds = 31,688 YEARS
The budget bill reduces taxes on billionaires, will cause millions to lose health care and increases the budget deficit by $3.2 trillion.

When the rights of anyone are under assault, everyone’s rights are at risk. The government denying due process to immigrants makes it not impossible for citizens to also be detained and removed from this country without a chance to defend themselves.
Immigration detentions by masked agents are increasing dramatically in the area. Think you see I.C.E.? Call LUCE’s hotline, 617-370-5023. Put the number in your phone so you can make a quick call and use the military mnemonic for Size, Activity, Location, Unit, Time, and Equipment (SALUTE) to help convey information they need to alert vulnerable people. And here’s a micro flyer with the hotline number to print and distribute by leaving on bus seats, in laundromats or anywhere else you can imagine.
And here’s an ask, more personal since we recently met Brookline’s state legislators, the State Budget has just been submitted to the Governor and in it is a $7 million cut in funding for domestic abuse and sexual assault services. Please call your representative (after calling about the Ugly Budget Bill) and ask that the funding be restored in any supplemental budget.

- Sister District makes a strong case that the real action and the greatest bang for the buck is in State Legislatures. Their research makes sure your money is well spent and the candidates they support are the ones who will provide a crucial line of defense to safeguard elections, advance voting rights, protect abortion access and more. Donate here instead of succumbing to the endless text pleas we are all receiving.
- Force Multiplier makes data driven decisions about the organizations they support so your dollars are strategically invested in Defending Democracy, Blue Digital Media and Flipping the House.
- Stock up on postcard stamps! Prices are going up on July 13! Get ready for your midterm postcarding or buy enough to share!

It’s been another terrible, horrible, very bad week (apologies to Judith Viorst), but there has been some good news.
- Jessica Craven’s Chop Wood, Carry Water is a resource we can’t recommend highly enough. This week her regular Sunday Extra! Extra! helped us remember we do have wins to celebrate.
- including that, according to Robert Hubbell, “as we face another difficult week, we must not conflate the immediate loss with its broader implications. Republicans are willing to trash their prospects in the House, Senate, and the 2028 presidential election for a single bill. No one makes that kind of bargain unless they believe they have no future. And that is what Republicans rightly believe.” read more.
