Hi, Friend.
Your Activist Evenings co-leaders have been strategizing about this year’s projects. We’ll be taking a two-pronged approach to protecting our democracy. We’ll continue to work hard on getting out the vote through our postcard writing and phone calling campaigns, but in addition we’ll be implementing Indivisible’s One Million Rising agenda.
We’ll be meeting on Sept. 15 to brainstorm the ways we can build a coalition of activists to resist the authoritarian regime and to work together to convince our societal pillars, such as education, business, labor, the media, to do the same. We encourage you to watch Indivisible’s One Million Rising training and join us on September 15.
In the words of Simon Rosenberg, “H ere we do not obey in advance. We do not give Trump things he has not earned or deserved … We understand that much of his power is an illusion that we simply can no longer participate in. We must continue to grow that circle of defiance we often talk about, and part of that is denying his hold and power over us.” Read more.
And, two simple actions: please spread the word about Activist Evenings by forwarding this to friends and insure you continue to receive our newsletter by clicking any link so your mail server doesn’t divert this to a spam folder. Thank you!

Please note: A core principle behind all our events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.

Protesting alone won’t change Trump but it does help build our movement. It strengthens that small voice in bystanders who are not yet speaking out. Marching with others or seeing clips of protests around the country reminds us that we are far from alone. There are millions of us willing to stand up for what we believe.
PLUS, sometimes protests and boycotts have a direct impact. Tesla Takedowns took Musk down a peg or two, the CEO of Target was let go because of a decrease in profits and Bearing Witness at ICE has resulted in reduced transfers on Wednesdays.
- Free Her March Saturday, September 13 10:30am–2:00pm downtown Framingham, An annual march to demand an end to jail and prison construction and timely given Governor Healey’s stated plans to build a new women’s prison
- Boycott Home Depot, Immigrant advocates are calling for a full boycott of Home Depot. The corporation is allowing ICE raids at their stores AND are huge Trump supporters. Please shop elsewhere–preferably at a mom and pop hardware store–if you possibly can.
- Sun way Pilgramage and Interfaith Service, Sunday, September 21 1:00pm–2:30pm Old South Church
- Bearing Witness at ICE, Every Wednesday and Thursday 11:00am–1:00pm 100 District Ave. Burlington, MA and every Saturday, 11am–1pm Burlington Mall Road and District Ave
- Brookline Rally for Democracy, Every Saturday 2:00pm–3:00pm Coolidge Corner, Brookline
- Tesla Takedown, Saturday, October 4 12:00pm–2:00pm at the Prudential Center in Boston and many Tesla showrooms around the world. (times vary)

- Time to play hardball, according to Dan Rather, Ezra Klein and a number of others. Ask your Senators to vote against the September budget continuing resolution and shut down the government. Funding a lawless and abusive administration is complicity.
- Friday, September 12, 10:00–11:00am, Forum on Stipend Reform for a Better Legislature on zoom, sponsored by Progressive Democrats of Massachusetts. Our legislators are rewarded for toeing the party line and stipends are a big part of the reason why so little is accomplished.
- Tuesday, September 30, 2-3 pm, Movement Voter Project briefing on the November elections.
- Who should Trump fear: Grandmothers: a masterclass in resistance draws the parallels between the authoritarian regime and resistance in Argentina and now, then balance that out by reading about the walkouts by students in DC this week.
- VoProPros partners in critical jurisdictions in the form of election support, voter outreach and education, data gathering, and technical expertise. There are crucial volunteer actions such as recruiting Poll watchers for the fall elections in key states, curing ballots, and many more actions.
- Tuesdays and Wednesdays , 6:00pm–7:30pm Prop 50 Vote Yes Phonebank. The League of Women Voters inexplicably has come out against this crucial proposition which will enable California to balance the Texas partisan gerrymandering Trump demanded. The $100 million opposition campaign is funded primarily by one billionaire but Wisconsin showed us the power of people over the power of money. So let’s show big money who is in charge, again.
- Invite your friends for a postcarding party to support Prop 50. Cartoons for Democracy has some great cards and you can get scripts and addresses through Activate America.
- Postcards are making a difference in school board races around the country. Markers for Democracy is totting up impressive results. Read about it here.
- There are calls to make to your legislators this week:
- AI death panels belong in Ripley’s Believe it or Not. The reality is that Trump and “Dr.” Oz have proposed using AI to review (and deny) procedures, trialing it in 7 state. If this doesn’t sound like healthcare you want, call your legislator.
- The Center for Disease Control is in chaos as RFK Jr. continues his assault on public health. Read about it here and then call your Representative to ask them to join a bipartisan effort to fire him.

You can’t be neutral on a moving train. Social change comes from the bottom up, from ordinary people organizing and acting together.

- Sister District learned from the GOP that supporting state legislative candidates pays off. Small investments yield huge returns In 2025, they are focusing on Virginia where a solid Democratic win will energize the country.
- Run for Something is smoothing the way for young progressives outside traditional power structures to run and win elections. From school boards to congress, they have an impressive track record supporting tens of thousands of potential candidates and notching up wins across the country in red, purple and blue districts.
- The Borowitz Report recommends that you if you choose to give money to a candidate, give to one with a rating of lean to winning or toss up according to the Cook Political Report (or you can let Force Multiplier to do that research).
